How Dental Caps (Crowns) Restore Teeth in Las Vegas, NV

by | Feb 20, 2026 | Restorative Dentistry

Dental caps, more commonly known as crowns, restore teeth compromised by decay, chips, cracks, or internal infection. A crown may be placed on an implant post to replace a single tooth. Crowns are also integrated into bridges for attachment to natural teeth. Many of our Las Vegas patients ask about crowns; they are a common and highly effective dental restoration.

At Miracle Dental, Dr. Halan Tran and Dr. Ann Pham practice gentle, contemporary dentistry to improve oral health and create beautiful smiles. If you suffer from a toothache, have been informed that you need a dental crown, or believe an existing crown may have failed, give us a call at (702) 456-0056. With contemporary technology and vast experience, our team will help you restore and maintain great oral health for life!

What Are Dental Caps?

A cap covers the sides and top of a damaged tooth to restore its strength, durability, appearance, and health. In our US-based dental lab, ceramists and technicians handmake each crown for a precision fit.

The dentist will help you determine the best material for your crowns:

  • Gold/precious metal – strongest option, excellent for molars, lasts 20-30 years
  • Zirconia – white, very resilient, lasts 15-20 years
  • Porcelain/ceramic – white, most natural looking, best for front teeth, lasts 10-20 years
  • Porcelain fused to metal (PFM) – white, strong, may show dark edge over time, lasts 10-20 years

If you opt for a cosmetic material (zirconia or a porcelain product) we will shade-match the restoration to blend seamlessly in your smile. Only you and your dentist will know you’ve had a crown placed.

How Dental Caps Restore Teeth

All dental caps improve the strength and durability of a damaged tooth, but they also protect against further damage. A crown also seals and stabilizes a tooth, while restoring the ability to chew properly without discomfort.

Patients who opt for cosmetic (white) crowns will enjoy the confidence that comes from knowing their smile looks great. White crowns appear natural and can even improve smile esthetics by eliminating flaws, closing wide spaces, or improving the coloring of the tooth.

What to Expect When Getting a Crown

Getting a crown is a very common procedure. Approximately 15 million dental crowns are placed each year in the US.

At your first appointment for a crown, the dentist will prepare your damaged tooth by removing all infected tissue, then removing some tooth enamel to make room for the restoration. We will take an impression of the prepped tooth, then secure a temporary crown so that your smile will appear normal when you leave. In a week or two, you’ll return to our Vegas office.

At the second and last appointment, the dentist will remove your temporary and secure the final, permanent restoration with long-lasting dental cement. Next, we’ll adjust the crown as necessary to ensure a balanced bite. And that’s it! Your tooth will be fully restored, healthy, and ready to serve you for years to come.

Note that a new crown can feel odd or off for a few days until your mouth becomes accustomed to it. If after a week the restoration feels odd, call us. In some cases, a crown needs additional adjustment for optimal fit.

Caring for Your Dental Caps

Caps require no special care. Simply brush twice and floss once daily, and attend six-month checkups and cleanings in our Las Vegas dental office. If your cap is damaged, feels loose, or falls out, call us for assistance.

Should you, your partner, or the dentist notice that you clench and grind your teeth, you may need a mouthguard. Chronic clenching and grinding of teeth is known as bruxism. A nighttime oral appliance will protect your teeth and restorations from wear, cracking, and chipping due to bruxing.

If you practice good oral homecare and visit us as recommended, your crowns can last many years.
